What is micro-needling / collagen induction therapy?
Micro-needling is a non-laser, skin resurfacing option that treats fine lines and wrinkles, scarring (especially acne scars), large pores, and skin texture issues. Micro-needling is great for all skin types. Unlike laser treatments, no heat is involved so it is also safe for dark skin and it works well on all parts of the body.
Aleksandra Predota, APRN FNP-C uses the SkinPen®, a handheld device with fine needles that pierce the skin thousands of times to create tiny local micro-injuries. Micro-needling creates a controlled treatment area that forces the new skin to produce new collagen and elastin, and rejuvenate itself.
How many micro-needling treatments will I need?
We recommend a series of 3 sessions for most patients, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Some skin conditions may require 5 to 6 sessions.
What can I expect during my micro-needling treatment?
The process starts with the application of a prescription-strength topical numbing cream, approximately 25 to 30 minutes before treatment.
Our board-certified aesthetic and advanced practice registered nurse will remove the numbing cream moments before the procedure begins, at our office.
Once you are comfortable, the treatment will begin and typically lasts between 20 to 30 minutes.
What can expect after my micro-needling treatment?
Immediately after treatment, the skin will be extremely red. In the days that follow, patients will experience dry, tight, slight redness, maybe even a tiny amount of peeling. Within a week, the skin will heal and continue to improve by filling in collagen elastin over the next month or so.
